Brown<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>West Hollywood has long been home to many LGBTQ folks in the Los Angeles area, with <a href=\"https:\/\/www.weho.org\/community\/weho-pride\">more than 40 percent<\/a> of residents identifying as such. It\u2019s only fitting that each year the city has hosted its own <a href=\"https:\/\/translash.org\/resources\/trans-affirming-pride-month-resource-guide\/\">Pride Month<\/a> festivities, and the latest one was its most epic so far! Thousands of folks poured into West Hollywood for <a href=\"https:\/\/www.wehopride.com\/\">WeHo Pride 2024<\/a> to enjoy the street fair, concerts, and more.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The weekend, which spanned from May 31 to June 2, was full of social events, pride parties, and a mega three-day musical festival headlined by none other than Ke$ha, <a href=\"https:\/\/translash.org\/podcasts\/translash-podcast\/janelle-monae\/\">Janelle Mon\u00e1e<\/a>, and Kylie Minogue. To capture all the fun, TransLash Media sent actress, activist, producer, and motivational speaker <a href=\"https:\/\/www.instagram.com\/blossomcbrown\/?hl=en\">Blossom C. Brown<\/a> to document all the celebratory love and glamor. Brown<\/em><\/strong><\/em><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>The concert also marked Ke$ha\u2019s first show since she became a \u201cfree woman,\u201d as <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com\/music\/music-news\/kesha-celebrates-first-show-free-woman-weho-pride-1235031098\/\">Rolling Stone<\/a> reports, after settling her decade-long lawsuit with Dr. Luke last summer.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Day 2 of WeHo Pride: Saturday, June 1<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>For those who prefer a more low-key Pride Month activity, there was the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.wehopride.com\/event\/weho-pride-street-fair\">WeHo Pride Street Fair<\/a> on Saturday afternoon. The eight hour family-friendly fair, stretched along Santa Monica Boulevard, featured a handful of community group booths, vendors, exhibitors, and even some performances by Bonnie McKee, R\u00eave, The Aces, and more.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"768\" height=\"1024\" src=\"https:\/\/translash.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/06\/Marky-Makeup--768x1024.jpg\" alt=\"A photo of a makeup and face tattoo booth at the Pride Street Fair. Brown<\/em><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>After that, the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.wehopride.com\/event\/womens-freedom-festival\">Women\u2019s Freedom Festival<\/a> took place, which was presented by the historically lesbian non-profit, <a href=\"https:\/\/thelproject.org\/\">L-Project Los Angeles<\/a>. The festival, which was in its third year according to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cbsnews.com\/losangeles\/news\/heres-a-full-schedule-and-guide-to-weho-pride-weekend-2024\/\">CBS News<\/a>, featured emerging LGBTQ and BIPOC women, non-binary musicians, comedians, poets, and activists. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/wehotimes.com\/city-of-west-hollywood-recognizes-outgoing-public-safety-commissioner-jackie-steele\/\">Jackie Steele<\/a> hosted the Women\u2019s Freedom Festival, which featured plenty of performances throughout from KingQueen, MariahCounts, Medusa, Theia, Gattison, Cheri Moon, Shiah Luna, Nekeith, DJ SterlingVictorian, DJ Boom Boom, Suri Chan, and Jen Cheng.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Why We Need Queer Women Representation<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>Being able to attend the Women\u2019s Freedom Festival on Saturday was a key highlight of the weekend for Blossom. \u201cThe representation of queer women in West Hollywood is so crucial and important. We have to amplify these types of voices, as they usually go unheard and unseen,\u201d Brown said. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>She added how exciting it was to see one of her friends get up on stage and speak her truth. \u201cWe must protect Native women. We must protect Black women at all costs. The motorcycle-led march began with a biker gang \u2014 because how else could it start? \u2014&nbsp; followed by a performance by non-binary alt-pop\/hip-hop producer and singer Medusa. The event included instructors guiding attendees through a lively Bachata class, a style of dance that originated in the Dominican Republic. Brown<\/em><\/strong><\/em><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Then the real party kicked off: the second night of the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.weareoutloud.com\/\">OUTLOUD musical festival<\/a> included a concert with performances by Yaeji, Sophie Ellis-Bextor, Noah Cyrus, Keke Palmer, Pegasus and Jack Faulkner, Channel Tres, Doechii, and, of course, headliner and <a href=\"https:\/\/translash.org\/transcript-translash-podcast-episode-40-janelle-monae-2\/\">former TransLash Podcast guest Janelle Mon\u00e1e<\/a>. What\u2019s a pride party without Mon\u00e1e anyway?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Blossom\u2019s WeHo Pride Highlight<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>Brown didn\u2019t just get to experience this mega concert live in person \u2014 she got to bask in all the joyful celebrations from backstage! One of her top five highlights from the weekend was being backstage at Saturday night\u2019s OUTLOUD music festival. \u201cThe vibe backstage was so chill, so dope. I saw celebrities like Doechii, Queen Latifah, Gabrielle Union,\u201d Blossom recounted. \u201cI got to witness the moment that Gabrielle Union and Queen Latifah surprised Doechii after her performance. It was such a beautiful, healing moment. Meeting the Queen herself. \u201cShe was so kind, so humble, so sweet,\u201d Brown said of Queen Latifah, whom she met backstage. \u201cIt\u2019s wonderful to meet A-list celebrities who are down to earth, who are kind. It\u2019s so great to be in that space in WeHo Pride and meeting someone as legendary as Queen Latifah.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Day 3 of WeHo Pride: Sunday<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>And finally \u2014 the parade! What\u2019s Pride with a Pride Parade, after all? Attendees got to dance to music by Ashnikko, Big Freedia, Vincint, a DJ set by Trixie Mattel, and more. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Then the big event everyone had been waiting for finally arrived \u2014 a big, queer Kylie Minogue concert.
